3 Ways to Lead by Example

Throughout my career I have had several managers who I have looked up to for guidance and mentorship. And one thing that it's taught me is that it's important if you want to have a team that truly respects you and supports you, that you need to lead by example.
There are several ways to approach this, but I wanted to share 3 things I think are fundamental.
✅ The same rules apply
Adhere to the same rules that you expect from your team. Your team looks to you to be the example in the workplace so things like lateness, in-office etiquette are all things that don’t go unnoticed. If you expect a certain attitude or behaviour from your team, you want to set that example yourself.
✅ Be available
Being a leader can be busy especially when you are balancing a team and business pressures. However, being available for your team is important. It helps to reduce issues before they arise and makes team members feel seen and heard. They should feel that they can come to you, and you are approachable and available when needed.
✅ Transparency is key
Communication and trust is incredibly important for mentoring a high performing and collaborative team. Being transparent (when possible) when it comes to challenges and goals helps to build trust, while helping your team have a clear vision of expectations in the workplace.
