It’s not fun and there are moments of uncertainty. Did I do something? Is this a reflection of my work? Will I find another job? So many emotions run through your head, especially what to do next.
This year has been tough for many and in conversations I have had with those affected by lay offs and in transition these are real thoughts. Unfortunately while there is support for writing resumes, mastering interviews one thing that gets forgotten is the support for your emotions.
I would be lying if there wasn’t a point when I asked myself some of the same questions, but your ability to get through transition with your head up high and with a positive perspective is what is going to get you through.
As someone who has experienced transition myself, I wanted to share some tips to help you through this:
✅𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐨𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬
Take time to feel how you really feel. Give yourself permission to express your emotions. It’s normal to have various emotions. Talk to your family, friends about how you feel. Write it down. You want to get it all out and not bottle it up inside.
✅𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐛𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭
How many times did you say to yourself “One day I will…”. Well today is that day. Use your new found “free time” to finally get to that vacation, that project, now you have no excuses and who knows it may lead you to something great.
✅𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞
Just like you had meetings, schedule your day. It doesn’t need to be every minute but carve out time for health, job seeking and development. This will help you feel like you have purpose in your day and allow you to keep a routine going.

I truly attribute this as a huge contributor to my positive mindset. I constantly practice gratitude and appreciation, set time for walking and time for reflection. Emulating a positive attitude and mindset sets you up for a healthy and positive road ahead.

The saying “your network is your net worth” couldn't be more true. Know that you aren’t alone. There are others who have probably gone through something similar in their career and are a great sounding board to chat through where you are at, get advice and plant the seed for future opportunities.
𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐞. Things may be tough, but they don’t need to feel tough. To all the job seekers out there, good luck - you got this! 💪
