How to Win at Black Friday

It’s Black Friday 🛒🛍️ and I woke up today to 56 Black Friday Emails and 1 text.

But this is what they are doing wrong.

It was already too late.

Black Friday is arguably one of the biggest retail shopping times of the year and most businesses know that so those that get ahead of the curve are the ones that see the best success.

Here’s how businesses can win at Black Friday:

1. Don’t rely on just email to get your offers out as you risk being lost in the many emails.

Utilize a multi-channel approach such as in-store, text and push notifications. 2-4 weeks prior to Black Friday send out an eblast driving your customers to these channels to start building lists. I was actually surprised I only got 1 text and guess what, Reitmans got my attention.

2. Just sending out an email the day of is too late.

Start teasing offers days before the masses so you can set yourself apart. Sephora did that and I already did my Black Friday shopping there 2 days ago.

3. An email subject line that just says “Black Friday Deals” is not enough.

Keep in mind in Canada especially that it’s not thanksgiving week so people may be at work, busy and will most likely only do a quick scroll through their packed inbox. Make it easy for them by grabbing their attention quickly with a compelling subject line that also includes the offer. Examples such as “Just $5.99” and “Everything 50% off” definitely got my attention.

While it may be too late to implement these for this Black Friday with Cyber Monday around the corner and Boxing Day not far away, my marketing friends, start implementing these ideas now so you ahead of the game.
